What a way to cheer us all up than to think of the flowers called Nerines. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) have done it again through sheer hard work and above all, courage. Their new RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford are scheduled to open in May, and open they will, if not in May, then at the earliest possible date thereafter.
The Nerine flower, is not a familiar flower to many Moorcroft connoisseurs, but the rich brilliance of each elegant petal is there to charm all those who set eyes on it. With a range of pure white to the almost Royal purple of the Krigei Nerine, designer Emma Bossons FRSA had a wealth of colour options to follow. This is a strong, joyous flower coming in all its beauty from the warmth of Southern Africa’s golden sun and the pleasant, red, sandy soil in which early Nerines once grew in the wild.
Fast forward, and the RHS brings us an abundance of nerines in all their colourful grace to RHS Bridgewater. The site is already famed for having over 90 different varieties of the cultivar – an astonishing botanical achievement. No wonder Emma was spoilt for choice!
