Each year at dawn on Anzac Day, the 25th April, people gather in Australia, New Zealand and Gallipoli to honour the people that have served in the armed forces. This day of remembrance takes place on the same day the Anzac soldiers landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. Many people will wear a floral symbol in their left lapel as a mark of respect – the most notable of which is a sprig of rosemary as it is found growing wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
While the poppy is worn on Remembrance Day in November, on Anzac Day wreaths of poppies are placed at memorials and honour boards and together these plants remain symbols of remembrance over 100 years later.
